The Better Business Bureau’s mission is to promote trust in the marketplace. The Torch Awards help with this mission. The Award recognizes those businesses that have made a commitment to and exemplify ethics and integrity in the marketplace. Each year, the BBB honors businesses that advertise truthfully, sell in an upfront and ethical manner, and build relationships with customers, employees, vendors, and the community based on trust and mutual benefit.
The Torch Awards also honor ethical charities. The Louisville BBB added this new category for the 2006 Awards Ceremony. The BBB recognizes area non-profit organizations that demonstrate the same high ethical standards by which businesses are judged. All soliciting charities must meet the BBB Standards for Charity Accountability.
Businesses are awarded in up to four categories based on the number of employees. Charities are awarded in up to 2 categories based on total revenues. Each nominated company is sent an entry packet, outlining information to be submitted. Businesses have until September 7, 2007 to submit their entries. Entries for the BBB Torch Awards are reviewed by a panel of judges independent of the Better Business Bureaus’ staff and Board of Directors.
No award could mean more to a business’s or charity’s reputation than a Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics! You can nominate a company or non-profit organzation until the end of July, each year. You can also attend or become a sponsor of the BBB Torch Awards Event. The Torch Awards event will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2007.
